Our commitment

STEP Certified is built for schools, and schools serve every student. We design and test the platform against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act rules for state and local government services and by Section 508.

What that looks like here

Semantic page structure: real headings, lists, tables, and landmarks that screen readers can navigate.
Keyboard operability: interactive controls are reachable and usable without a mouse, with visible focus.
Light and dark themes drawn from a checked color palette, plus respect for your system preference.
Text alternatives: images carry alt text, icon-only indicators carry accessible labels, and image credits are readable text.
Automated WCAG checks run against the site as part of every release.

Known limitations

Some embedded third-party content (videos hosted on YouTube or Vimeo, and external certification tools such as Certiport and GMetrix) is controlled by its provider. Captions on embedded videos depend on the source video. Teachers are encouraged to pick captioned videos, and lessons never rely on video alone.

If anything on STEP Certified is hard to use with assistive technology, tell your school and ask them to pass it to Tech Cleanup, Inc. Accessibility reports are treated as bugs, not requests.
